Scouting Report
Mike Washington Jr. left high school in Cicero, New York, as a two-star recruit. He chose to stay in-state and redshirted his freshman year at Buffalo. He racked up 1,147 yards and 10 touchdowns over two seasons before transferring to New Mexico State. Another big season precluded another transfer, this time to Arkansas. Washington's year at Arkansas was his most productive. He proved capable of big performances against Power Four competition and emerged as one of the SEC's biggest surprises.
Washington is a muscular back, and his power is apparent in his galloping gait. His above-average vision allows him to identify holes quickly on inside runs and explode through them. He's deceptively fast, regularly beating defenders to the edge and downfield. He can level defenders in the open field, but he's also adept at bending away, using exceptional contact balance to continue downfield after minimizing contact. He's a reliable pass-catcher, often exploiting defenses on wheel and swing routes. Washington's fervor comes at a cost, and ball security will need attention at the next level. However, his size, speed, and strength should make him a desirable prospect.
Rundown
Washington is an impressively sized back who can make explosive plays both as a runner and a receiver.
