Scouting Report
Seth McGowan was a four-star recruit who drew major interest from Power Five schools. After a promising true freshman season at Oklahoma, where he averaged 6.4 yards per carry, McGowan was released from the program amidst legal issues, ultimately pleading guilty to a larceny charge. McGowan rebuilt his career through Texas College (NAIA) and Butler Community College before emerging at New Mexico State in 2024. He transferred to Kentucky for the 2025 season and will be a 26-year-old rookie during his first NFL season, an advanced age for the position.
McGowan is a force, listed at 220 pounds and playing with aggressive athleticism. He keeps his shoulders square, gets downhill quickly, and accelerates through contact. He's a true north-south runner who isn't denied at the goal line and can wear defenses down with volume carries. He lacks high-end speed, often getting chased down on outside runs and in the secondary. He's also a bit reckless at times, losing control of his body during and after contact, resulting in some fumbles. McGowan also showed a steady decline in efficiency throughout his college career, raising concerns about mileage and age-related wear.
Rundown
McGowan is an aggressive downhill runner with prototypical size, but his long and arduous path through college may have taken its toll.
