Lamar Jackson leaves with ankle injury, Smythe hurts Achilles as Hibner sees season-high snaps
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson played all 33 first-half snaps in Sunday's win over the Titans but did not return after halftime with an ankle injury, and QB Tyler Huntley played the final two quarters (31 snaps). TE Durham Smythe suffered an Achilles injury after 18 snaps and did not return, while rookie TE Matt Hibner played a season-high 37 snaps, matching TE Mark Andrews, who caught five passes and a touchdown. WR Zay Flowers led the receivers with 47 snaps, and WR Devontez Walker played 44, 14 more than WR Rashod Bateman. CB Marlon Humphrey (calf) left after eight snaps and G Andrew Vorhees (foot) after 28, and neither returned.
Doyle says Devontez Walker can 'earn' bigger role with Zay Flowers still out
Ravens WR Devontez Walker played just 17 snaps in Week 2 against the Saints, catching one of two targets for 47 yards, while WR Chris Moore played 32 snaps and WR LaJohntay Wester played 31 with WR Zay Flowers (hamstring) sidelined and WR Ja'Kobi Lane (wrist) on injured reserve. Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle said on Thursday that the team had a package of plays for Walker and added, "I am really happy with how he responded to his role, and just like throughout the year, guys' roles change. They kind of earn those roles, and he's an example of that." Doyle also addressed passing on a third-and-1 in the fourth quarter instead of handing off to RB Derrick Henry, saying, "I am very aware that Derrick Henry's on our roster. I love Derrick, and it really has to start with our run game. That's the way our offense is."
Bateman steps into No. 1 role, hauls in 7 catches for 88 yards, TD vs. Saints
WR Rashod Bateman stepped into Baltimore's top receiver spot with Zay Flowers (hamstring) inactive and rookie Ja'Kobi Lane on injured reserve, catching seven passes for 88 yards and a touchdown on nine targets in the Ravens' 24-17 loss to the Saints in Week 2.
