The Vikings moved on from McCarthy, who has reunited with his college coach. At some point, the Giants will want to see what he can do. I'm not optimistic, especially with the intense media pressure in New York, but he's in as good a spot as he could be with a coach who understands him and an injury-prone QB1.

Harbaugh not ready to name Week 7 starter after McCarthy replaces Winston
Giants head coach John Harbaugh said on Sunday he is not ready to name a starting quarterback for Week 7 at the Texans. QB J.J. McCarthy replaced QB Jameis Winston during Sunday's 34-27 home loss to the Saints, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported. The Giants' running back situation was also left unsettled after the loss.

Giants QB J.J. McCarthy entered Sunday's game against the Saints at quarterback in place of an ineffective QB Jameis Winston. The change came after New Orleans scored 34 unanswered points to take a 34-10 lead over the Giants. McCarthy threw an interception on his first drive and then led two touchdown and one field goal drives to get the Giants within seven points. McCarthy then drove the team down into scoring range, but couldn't throw a touchdown on the game's final play as Isaiah Likely had three Saints all over him as the ball arrived. McCarthy was 11 for 21 for 243 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, with two carries for 26 yards on the day.
Giants didn't trade for McCarthy to supplant Winston or Dart; Dart 'long-term guy'
The Giants did not trade for QB J.J. McCarthy with the intention of supplanting QB Jameis Winston or QB Jaxson Dart, NFL insider Jordan Schultz said on Tuesday. Schultz said Dart remains the team's long-term quarterback.

Giants QB J.J. McCarthy is the primary backup to QB Jameis Winston for Sunday's game against the Commanders, with the team opting to go with two active quarterbacks. QB Jake Haener is inactive as the third quarterback. RB Devin Singletary, S Jason Pinnock (concussion), CB Nikko Reed, DT Bobby Jamison-Travis and OT J.C. Davis are also inactive.
