The yoyo season of McCarthy continues. After a comeback for the ages against the Bears in week one, he stunk against the Falcons the following week. His injury was speculated to be a soft benching. As soon as Carson Wentz was lost for the year McCarthy came back. And wins against the Lions. He showed inconsistency sprinkled with great moments. It’s easy to forget he is only three games into his NFL career and should need time to develop. He gets a preemptive rise in rankings.

Some bumps in the road were to be expected as McCarthy plays what is essentially a rookie season, but his performance has been ugly, and injuries have cost him valuable playing time. He's a candidate to lose his job to a free-agent veteran for 2026.

J.J. McCarthy is in the concussion protocol
The Vikings may be turning to Max Brosmer at quarterback in Week 13. Head coach Kevin O'Connell announced on Monday that J.J. McCarthy is in the concussion protocol.
J.J. McCarthy on the practice field Monday; Wentz not seen
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell told reporters last week that quarterback J.J. McCarthy would start when he's healthy. They may need him to be this week. According to multiple reporters on the scene, McCarthy was practicing on Monday during the media's brief viewing window. Carson Wentz, who has started the last five games for Minnesota, was not seen participating in the session.
J.J. McCarthy Has A High-Ankle Sprain; Out 2-4 Weeks
Following up on the previous item, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy is expected to be sidelined two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain.
