The depth chart at the start of the year in Miami is likely to be radically different by the end of the season. Probably much earlier. This group is the leagues worst by far on paper. Still, someone has to catch the ball.

The Dolphins have the worst roster in football and aren't trying to hide it. But Douglas has reasonably high draft capital and quickly took hold of a starting position. There could be value here.

Mike McDaniel has an excellent offensive mind with scheme. His potential weakness is seeing his talent as cogs in specific roles and doesn't recognize when a player has value outside this envisioned role.

When forced to face that reality, McDaniel resorts to extreme caution with usage. This happened with Malik Washington, Jr.

Washington's film profile at UVA and Northwestern looked more like a young Santana Moss than the next Braxton Berrios, but McDaniel never gave Washington the targets to prove it.

Washington gets his chance at flanker, but now the potential obstacle is Malik Willis' accuracy. If Willis can exceed expectations, Washington could lead this receiving corps by a large margin as a fantasy WR2.

Expect more downfield targets than before, but not with the accuracy and placement from Willis that will lead to that WR2 value. Think of Washington as a bye-week value, which as the projected WR1 on the team tells you not to expect much from this passing gamein 2026.

Somebody has to be the WR1 in Miami. It could be Washington, but it could also be any of the rookie WRs the team drafted or anyone else running routes. Even if he were the team's WR1, it may not matter for fantasy until the team gets on the upswing part of its rebuild.

Jalen Reagor works as No. 3 receiver

Miami Dolphins WR Jalen Reagor worked as the No. 3 receiver in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 14, against the Washington Commanders. He was working ahead of WRs Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert, and others, seeing reps alongside WRs Caleb Douglas and Malik Washington. 'He had earned the right through practices to put himself in that situation,' head coach Jeff Hafley said. 'I like the way he strained. He's catching the ball well. Run after the catch has good. He's blocking well.'
