At this point, you're looking at TEs who should be considered based only on their ceiling of potential.
Mayer is overrated based on the years of buzz media generated when he was at Notre Dame. Mayer is an excellent zone receiver who wins targets in tight windows. He can also win one-on-one in the red zone.
What holds him back from matching the hype piled on him is his difficulty with winning man-to-man coverage in the intermediate game. He's not a match-up advantage as an NFL tight end in this area of the game and that's the difference between a contributor-level option and a high-end NFL starter.
