No one wants to entrust their fantasy future to a Waiver Wire Wonder. Fantasy managers far and wide would much rather just roll out the players they drafted as starters each and every week.

Of course, if you have played fantasy football for more than one week, then you know that isn't how things work. Not even a little.

The fantasy football season is a never-ending series of trials and tribulations. No season ever goes entirely according to plan. You're driving along, minding your own business, when the sewing machine you're dragging hits a pool of paint thinner that Kramer dumped across the highway.

Happens to the best of us.

Just this past week, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson made it all of one snap into his return from an injured hamstring before suffering a thumb injury that will require surgery and could end his season. The injury didn't just affect Jackson's fantasy managers, either—with Tyler Huntley (toe) also on the shelf, the Ravens were forced to turn to an undrafted rookie at quarterback—and Ravens wideout Zay Flowers was held without a catch.

It's not just injuries, either. At this point in the season, many managers are at a crossroads. They can't afford many more losses or their already dwindling postseason aspirations will be well and truly toast. Players who aren't getting it done have to be replaced.

Whatever the reason, plenty of folks need to start shopping for starters.

And Waiver Wire Wonders is like Walmart in that regard.

Each week during the 2026 season, we will be building a "lineup" (1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX) consisting of players who are available in over 50 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues. Will those players single-handedly win you a matchup? Probably not.

But they can help keep your mail truck on the road.

Week 8 Waiver Wire Wonders

QB Malik Willis, Miami (10.6 Percent Rostered)

The Dolphins aren't winning much, but relative to earlier in the season, quarterback Malik Willis is playing better—in last week's loss to New England, Willis had his highest passing yardage total since Week 1 and threw multiple touchdown passes for the second straight week. Per Dan Fornek of RotoBaller, Willis also has a string of favorable matchups on tap.

"Things will get better for Willis and the Dolphins' offense starting in Week 9 with a matchup against the Detroit Lions," he said. "From there, the Dolphins will face off against the Colts (Week 10), Bills (Week 11), Jets (Week 12), Broncos (Week 13), and Bears (Week 14). There are several defenses in there that give up plenty of points against quarterbacks."

No team in the league is allowing more fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season than the Lions. The Bills and Bears rank inside the top-10 in that regard as well. And all three of those matchups feature the potential for the kind of negative game script that will force the Dolphins to the air.

RB Tyler Allgeier, Arizona (45.9 Percent Rostered)

The Cardinals have used multiple running backs most of the season, but with Jeremiyah Love (ankle) and Bam Knight (concussion) both on the shelf last week, the Redbirds had to lean on Allgeier as an every-down back against the Dallas Cowboys. The result was arguably the best game of Allgeier's career, and Reese Kunz of Raising Zona believes that his breakout performance could be a sign of things to come.

"Time will tell if he's ready for that increased role permanently," Kunz wrote, "but this 147-yard rushing night is a promising sign of things to come. He's always showcased the talent in Atlanta, and we're finally seeing that translate to production with the Cardinals. It's finally looking like the good signing we initially thought it was.

Allgeier piled up 191 total yards and scored twice against the Cowboys—numbers that earned him the top spot at running back in a week where multiple backs had big games. He's unlikely to repeat that success this week against a stout Seahawks defense, but eight weeks into the season, finding featured backs is easier said than done—and it's more likely than not that Love and Knight sit in Week 9.
