WR Omar Cooper Jr. placed on injured reserve

Jets.com reports that New York placed rookie WR Omar Cooper Jr. on injured reserve after he sustained an ankle injury in the Jets' Week 1 23-10 victory over the Titans. Cooper, selected No. 30 overall in April's draft, played the opening series and had a 30-yard reception that set up New York's first touchdown of the year. The Jets also elevated K Jason Sanders and LB Troy Reeder from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's Week 2 game against the Packers. Sanders made three field goals in Week 1, including two from 50-plus yards, while Reeder joins the roster after most recently being with Detroit.

Jared Dubin of CBS Sports reports that Jets rookie WR Omar Cooper Jr. will be placed on injured reserve due to an ankle sprain suffered in Week 1, ruling him out at least four games. Cooper, the 30th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, was hurt on a 30-yard catch-and-run against the Titans, his first offensive touch as a pro. He will miss games against the Packers, Lions, Bears, and Browns, with a possible return in Week 6 against the Patriots. In his absence, WR Garrett Wilson and WR AD Mitchell figure to see more targets, while WR Isaiah Williams could take on a larger slot role and TE Kenyon Sadiq may see increased usage.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Jets rookie WR Omar Cooper will be placed on injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Packers, sidelining him for at least four games. Cooper suffered the ankle injury early in last Sunday's win over the Titans after taking a short pass 30 yards to set up New York's first touchdown of the season. The Jets signed veteran WR Sterling Shepard to the practice squad earlier this week, giving them another option alongside Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell, Isaiah Williams, and Arian Smith while Cooper is out.
