Burks has the physical skills of a top-end starter. He has long lacked the attack technique for a consistent pass-catcher, and he seemed lost with where to settle when running routes against zone coverages.
Burks also lacked strong technique with releases against tight coverage. A big, strong, and fast athlete can win enough in the SEC to look like an impact player without good technical and conceptual skills, but rarely in the NFL.
Burks and Luke McCaffrey are battling for the WR3/WR4 spots in OTAs. If these players execute based on the recent past, McCaffrey has the distinct advantage once we reach the portion of practices where the athletic beauty contest as run its course.
