1. WAS - RB Derrius Guice arrested

Source: The Washington Post - Sam Fortier, Nicki Jhabvala and Les Carpenter

Washington Football Team RB Derrius Guice was arrested Friday, Aug. 7, and has been charged with one count of felony strangulation, three counts of assault and battery and one count of destruction of property.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The strangulation count is especially troubling. Washington has had a very rough year in public relations and Ron Rivera has been trusted with a culture reset, so Guice has been released. Adrian Peterson moves up a few rounds on our draft boards, but is still not essential, while Guice becomes an end of the draft pick who could still spend the whole season on the commissioner's exempt list - if he finds a new team, which is a big if.

2. WAS - Washington releases RB Derrius Guice

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Washington Football Team RB Derrius Guice was released Friday, Aug. 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team wasted no time in making a decision here.

Washington is at a culture crossroads and the new regime had no ties to Guice. Ron Rivera is being entrusted with an organizational reset and keeping Guice could have been seen as sending the wrong message.

Until this is sorted out, he should drop to the last round of drafts facing a possible suspension or time on the commissioner's exempt list. Especially in light of the strangulation charge. Adrian Peterson should become the early down back, but is still only worth a pick in the second half of drafts with third-round pick Antonio Gibson likely mixing in and J.D. McKissic getting looks on passing downs. Peyton Barber was a puzzling signing with the team's depth at running back, but now his presence could allow the team to release Guice without worry about depth behind Peterson on early downs. Bryce Love is a promising young talent as well and will have an opportunity.

The team also has cap room so a veteran signing like Devonta Freeman might be a possibility.

3. ATL - WR Calvin Ridley impresses coach

Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Will McFadden

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley has 'really put in a good offseason ... he's bigger, stronger,' Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said Friday, Aug. 7, in a media conference call.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley is still going two rounds or so after Julio Jones, but has an outside shot at becoming the most productive Falcons receiver this year. He's part of a wide receiver group that is so deep in fantasy drafts that it has made many good names stay available rounds after they should be.

4. NYG - WR Sterling Shepard looking to lead

Source: NFL Network - Kimberly Jones

New York Giants WR Sterling Shepard is entering the 2020 season as the longest-tenured Giant, and said Friday, Aug. 7, in a Zoom media conference call that 'I might have to shake the 'young' Shep.' He added that he plans to set a 'good example' for his younger teammates.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants have quite the arsenal of targets for Daniel Jones if everyone can stay healthy. In Shepard's case, that means avoiding concussions after they were a problem for him last year. He has played and produced better than his cheap ADP and could be a hit if he stays healthy and Evan Engram does not.

5. NE - QB Jarrett Stidham eager for competition

Source: Boston Herald - Karen Guregian

New England Patriots QB Jarrett Stidham on Friday, Aug. 7, said it's 'been a wild ride this offseason ... I'm happy to get rolling.' He also added that he's looking forward to the 'competition' with QBs Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stidham has the advantage of having a year experience in Josh McDaniels' system over Cam Newton, but a healthy Newton should have no trouble pulling away from him. Newton's ADP is still a little depressed with the uncertainty of a quarterback battle, but that should be resolved once padded practices start.

6. MIA - Three players activated

Source: MiamiDolphins.com

Miami Dolphins DT Davon Godchaux, S Brandon Jones and DE Shaq Lawson were activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Aug. 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jones could play a big role in the secondary as a rookie third round pick and Lawson will be counted on to generate pass rush for a new look defense after being signed as a free agent.

7. TEN - OLB Vic Beasley reports

Source: ESPN.com - Turron Davenport

Tennessee Titans LB Vic Beasley reported for COVID-19 testing Friday, Aug. 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Beasley had been away from the team and missed the opt out deadline, so it will be an interesting test case if he has a change of heart about playing this year, especially if the reason he didn't show was concerns about coronavirus. The Titans are counting on him to give pass rush presence opposite Harold Landry after he fizzled out with Atlanta.

8. BAL - James Proche may be returner

Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens WR James Proche is considered the leading candidate for the punt returner job this season. WR Willie Snead and Marquise Brown are also options for the job.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Proche is a quality slot receiver with top notch hands, but he doesn't provide the speed third round pick Devin Duvernay brings to the table, so special teams is his best path to making the team.

9. PIT - WR James Washington activated

Source: Steelers.com

Pittsburgh Steelers WR James Washington was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Aug. 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington will be working on building chemistry with Ben Roethlisberger after the two barely played together last year. Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool will be his main competition for snaps at outside receiver with Juju Smith-Schuster in the slot.

10. PHI - DE Vinny Curry back with Philly

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo

Free agent DE Vinny Curry is re-signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, Aug. 7, according to sources.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Curry will be a cheap source of quality snaps in the defensive line rotation who is very familiar with the coaches, scheme, and his teammates. Teams may be reluctant to spend on remaining free agents with a lower cap coming next year, so players like Curry will be inexpensive.

11. SF - DE Dion Jordan signs with Niners

Source: 49ers.com

Free agent DL Dion Jordan (Raiders) on Friday, Aug, 7, signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers, the team announced. Terms of the deal were not available.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jordan was a top three pick by Miami but has never come close to his ceiling, dealing with suspensions and underachievement. The 49ers have a formidable rotation on the defensive line that will be tough for Jordan to break into.

12. NO - OLB Nigel Bradham signing official

Source: NFLCommunications.com

Free-agent LB Nigel Bradham (Eagles) officially signed with the New Orleans Saints Friday, Aug. 7. Official terms of the contract were not disclosed.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bradham could be needed if third round pick Zach Baun can't convert to inside linebacker and Alex Anzalone can't stay healthy.

13. BAL - Matt Skura expected to practice soon

Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens C Matt Skura (knee) should be on the practice field in the near future, according to head coach John Harbaugh. Harbaugh said Skura being placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list was a precautionary move.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Skura had a severe leg injury end his 2019 and his 2020 was no sure thing, but it looks like he could be ready for the season. The Ravens could use the stability on the interior offensive line as they are also replacing possible Hall of Famer Marshal Yanda at guard.

14. SEA - DT Marcell Dareus an option for SEA?

Source: Sirius XM NFL Radio - Adam Caplan

Free-agent DT Marcell Dareus (Jaguars) could be an option for the Seattle Seahawks since they are looking to add depth at the defensive tackle position, in the opinion of Sirius XM NFL Radio's Adam Caplan.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Seahawks added Jamal Adams in a huge trade but he doesn't the lack of experience and run-stuffing presence on the defensive line. Dareus makes sense for Seattle as a player to contribute on first and second down and obvious run situations.

15. BAL - QB Trace McSorley has good chance to make team

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Baltimore Ravens QB Trace McSorley likely will make the final roster since John Harbaugh said the team plans to keep three quarterbacks on the active roster.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McSorley is part of the "Taysom Hill" wave of third quarterbacks with top-end athleticism and ability to be used in multiple ways, but in the Ravens offense he could actually be a viable backup if Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III both go down.

16. HOU - WR Kenny Stills placed on NFI list

Source: Houston Chronicle - Aaron Wilson

Houston Texans WR Kenny Stills (illness) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Illness list Friday, Aug. 7.

[ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stills probably would have been traded this offseason, but he has a seven million dollar price tag. He may end up being the odd man out in the passing offense with the addition of Brandin Cooks and Randall Cobb, but an injury or two to a wide receiver would make him relevant again.
