Rookie Xavier Watts won the starting job next to Jessie Bates, and along with Bates, played all 58 of Atlanta’s defensive snaps against Tampa Bay in Week 1. Watts had a rock-solid debut, recording six solo tackles and two passes defended in his first regular-season game. Per PFF, Watts saw 32 of his 58 defensive snaps up in the box and slot areas. If you’re looking for safety reinforcements, Watts looks like a rookie who should be solid in both dynasty and redraft IDP leagues.

Tykee Smith’s shift to safety in his second season looks fruitful for us IDP gamers. Smith racked up a team-high 11 tackles (7 solos) in Week 1 over his 74 defensive snaps. Alignment-wise, Smith’s deployment was ideal, as he saw 44 of his 74 snaps up in the box and slot areas, per PFF. If Smith is available in shallower IDP leagues, scoop him up where you can.
