Roundtable Week 1: Bills vs. Jets

Matt Waldman's Roundtable Week 1: Bills vs. Jets Matt Waldman Published 09/07/2023

Welcome to Week 4 of the 2023 Footballguys Roundtable. Our intrepid panel of fantasy pundits discusses and debates four topics every week. From this point forward, we're splitting the topics into separate features.

This week's roundtable features these four topics:

Let's dissect the fantasy side of the Bills-Jets contest that could be the NFL's best game of the week.

Game of the Week: Bills vs. Jets

Matt Waldman: On paper, this is one of the most exciting games of the week, with Aaron Rodgers squaring off against Josh Allen and a Jets defense that believes it can become an elite unit against a Bills defense that has been one of the 3-5 best in the league for the past three years.

  • Who in the top 150 from recent ADP is most likely to be underwhelming in this matchup?
  • Who outside the top 150 from the list above will deliver beyond expectations for this matchup?
  • Give me potential game script scenarios for each answer that could lead to the opposite results for each player.

Hit us up...

Daniel Harms: The Jets' offensive line is a severe question mark going into their week one matchup. A player who needs time to get open might not have enough of that to do fantasy damage, and that player on the Jets is Allen Lazard. He's my bet to underwhelm.

The shiftiness and elusive ability Deonte Harty can bring after the catch is an element the Bills' offense needs. In a game where shaking loose from outside corners might be difficult, a shifty slot receiver could help. This gives him a shot at delivering above expectations.

A combination of the offensive line giving Rodgers more time to read and finding Lazard in one-on-one situations where Rodgers can use his ball placement to Lazard’s advantage gives him an upside I'm not expecting. Harty doesn’t see much playing time because Kincaid, Sherfield, or Shakir play in front of him, and the target concentration squeezes him out.
