Rent-A-Defense: Week 3

Our Sigmund Bloom finds waiver-wire defenses that should excel this week.

Sigmund Bloom's Rent-A-Defense: Week 3 Sigmund Bloom Published 09/17/2024

We lost one of our best matchups when Bryce Young got benched, but gained another in sad circumstances when Tua Tagovailoa suffered another concussion. We're also watching to see if the Chargers, Bears, or Vikings emerge as every week plays. Let's run down the Week 3 Rent-A-Defense scene.

Week 2 Results

LA Chargers (at Carolina) - 2 sacks, 1 INT, 3 pts allowed

Too bad there's no bonus for helping a quarterback look so bad that he's benched.

A Look Ahead: @PIT KC BYE - If the Chargers can get in the lead on the road, this could be a good spot to use them this week.

Jacksonville (vs Cleveland) - 2 sacks

The Jaguars fell behind in this game and didn't get to rattle Deshaun Watson.

A Look Ahead: @BUF HOU IND - Shuffle the Jaguars D/ST off to the waiver wire before they go to Buffalo.

Philadelphia (vs Atlanta) - 1 sack

It looks like Kirk Cousins is going to be okay after all.

A Look Ahead: @NO @TB BYE - Fly Eagles D/ST Fly to the waiver wire.

NY Jets (at Tennessee) - 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 1 INT

Will Levis is still on our target list thanks to a three-sack day from Will McDonald IV and another blunder by the second-year quarterback.

A Look Ahead: NE DEN @MIN - The Patriots are actually decent, but Bo Nix isn't, so keep the Jets D/ST on waiver speed dial.

Indianapolis (at Green Bay) - 1 fumble recovery

Matt LaFleur set up Malik Willis for success and the Colts D/ST for failure.

A Look Ahead: CHI PIT @JAX - We should consider the Colts again this week because of the matchup.

Denver (vs Pittsburgh) - 2 sacks

Justin Fields is limiting turnovers and sacks, and the Broncos don't look like a team that will play with many leads this year.

A Look Ahead: @TB @NYJ LV - Happy trails Broncos D/ST

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda

Houston (vs Chicago) - 7 sacks, 2 INT

The Bears offense is a potential D/ST goldmine every week until they get something working.

Kansas City (vs Cincinnati) - 3 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 1 DEF TD

It wasn't a great performance by the defense, but they made your week on one sack/scoop/score.

Minnesota (vs San Francisco) - 6 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 1 INT

Brian Flores has this defense smelling blood in the water. Houston is up this week in a great test for CJ Stroud. If the D/ST has a good day against the Texans, they could rise to everyweek start status.
