Fields is good at making 1-2 reads and running the football. He's at his best in a spread scheme doing this work. His judgment is lacking as a field general when forced to make mature decisions in difficult situations that lead to compounded mistakes that kill drives and/or field position.
Fields is the hedge for Patrick Mahomes early in the year, but it's looking like Mahomes will be ready Week 1. It could mean the Chiefs take a more meaningful look at Garrett Nussmeier during the preseason. If Nussmeier impresses, Fields could be expendable.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 22, according to head coach Andy Reid. QB Justin Fields will be the starting quarterback and will play into the second quarter.
