Welcome to the latest edition of AMA Recap! We'll be summarizing our bi-weekly Discord AMAs, leading up to the 2025 NFL season. This week, Footballguys Analyst Bob Harris takes a look at the situations of the NFL's newest play-callers, back-up quarterbacks, late-round rookie favorites, and much, much more!
Play Caller Positivity
Codeo3er: Which offensive play callers will have the biggest effects on points scored this season?
Bob Harris: I'd love to believe Ben Johnson will continue to lean into his creativity to turn the Bears offense into a juggernaut similar to what he built in Detroit. I'd also like to believe John Morton can at least keep the train on the tracks in Detroit. Chip Kelly's history suggests he'll do what we want with Ashthon Jeanty, and I'm hopeful that Liam Coen can follow the same path with Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville that Dave Canales did in Carolina with Bryce Young (who was QB6 from Week 12 on last year). Also, expecting the Patriots to field a better offense with Josh McDaniels calling the shots for Drake Maye, but that offensive line must improve quickly.
Chief Backup
Bearly Fantasy: What do you think of Gardner Minshew as Patrick Mahomes's backup?
Bob: I'm a big believer in having experienced depth at quarterback. Minshew has that, but not much else. The same, however, can be said of previous backups in Kansas City, some of whom were sufficient to keep the associated assets relevant (or at least semi-relevant).
Judkins Question Marks
Sumokid: Hi Bob, where does Quinshon Judkins go in a Superflex rookie draft now? Have some rookie drafts upcoming and love to get your take on his value. Thanks!
