Welcome to the Dynasty Trading Post, where we examine optimizing strategy, roster construction, format, and player value oscillations every week, providing examples and completed dynasty trades.
This week, we'll focus on the myriad of quarterback injuries and key price points in dynasty trading.
*All trades are Superflex unless stated otherwise*
QBs Jake Browning, Carson Wentz, Mac Jones
Theme of the Week: Buying and Selling Stopgap Options
Carson Wentz and Mac Jones are band-aid options for a stretch of one to two games, potentially lasting a month or so. Both have strong infrastructures around them with success as previous starters in the NFL. Jake Browning is a rare scenario in Superflex leagues, offering the rest of the season on a quality offense projected for shootouts. Browning started in 2023 and has a dash of Jameis Winston in his game with his bold throws downfield and high-variance results. If deep at quarterback and considering selling these solutions, hold Browning closer to the vest with his longer lens of projected starts this season. Browning is a legitimate season-long problem-solver for teams losing a starter.
Here are a few key trades involving new quarterback starters:
- Sell Jake Browning, 27 2nd for 27 1st
- Sell Jake Browning for 26 2nd, 27 2nd
- Buy Jake Browning for Calvin Ridley
- Buy Jake Browning, 26 3rd for D'Andre Swift
- Sell Mac Jones for Quentin Johnston
- Sell Mac Jones for 26 2nd
- Buy Mac Jones, 26 1st for George Pickens
- Buy Mac Jones for Xavier Legette, 26 4th
- Buy Mac Jones for 26 3rd
- Sell Carson Wentz for 26 3rd, 27 3rd
- Sell Carson Wentz for Anthony Richardson Sr.
- Buy Carson Wentz for 26 4th, 26 4th
- Buy Carson Wentz, 26 2nd for Eli Ayomanor
The range of outcomes offers buy and sell spreads on every bridge quarterback. Carson Wentz is the most likely sell as the odds he returns all the way to a stable QB2 in the NFL and dynasty is lower than Mac Jones (already there) and Jake Browning (auditioning to compete for a future starting job?). Upgrading to a future 1st with Browning is the general "can't say no" line this week. The same applies to two 2nd round picks, as one of them can be repurposed to an NFL starter at running back or wide receiver now or in the future. If a team is light at quarterback, utilizing depth players like D'Andre Swift or Calvin Ridley, as in the examples, is a great way to rebalance a roster.
