The Brendan Sorsby Saga has been one of the most bizarre NFL Draft-related events in recent memory. Initial scouting reports value him with the potential to land anywhere from the First Round to Early Day 3. NFL teams will need to bid a future 2027 pick to select him. Dynasty Fantasy Football leagues face a conundrum in adding Sorsby into their player pool.
Mike Kashuba and Jeff Bell talk through potential options.
Jeff: Mike, you had some great ideas in Basecamp when this news first hit the wire. Why not lay them out here?
Mike: Thanks, Jeff! The most important thing to me, and what I think we should start with, is that this should all be done through a league vote or a way transparent to your leaguemates. This is a weird situation, and we shouldn't just jump into anything too quickly.
But when the news first hit, three ideas came to mind.
1. Run your own supplemental draft.
This is one of the rare instances to do so, and it can be a memory your league will look back on, laugh at, cry over the results, and bring the league together. The way to do that would be to have everyone bid (ideally on a group call or in a live setting) up to a first-round pick in 2027. Ties, you start adding additional picks, FAAB, or other assets to break them until one manager is left with the rights to Sorsby. Those picks or FAAB would have to be manually removed from the team, and Sorsby would then be added to the winner's roster.
