Scouting Report

Behren Morton, the son of a coach, has plenty of college experience. He was a three-time MVP for his high school district in Eastland, Texas. As a four-star recruit, he had plenty of options, but stayed in Texas at Texas Tech. He redshirted in his first year and entered the lineup in 2022 after an injury to Tyler Shough, replacing the original backup. He was a spot starter for the rest of the season, alternating with Donovan Smith. In 2023, Shough left with an injury again, and Morton took the starting job. He played through an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder most of the season. Morton was a team captain in 2024 and 2025.

Morton will either deliberately manipulate defenders with his eyes and throwing frame or lock directly into his first read. There's little middle ground in his processing. He has a zippy arm and can throw outside the numbers up to 20 yards. Visible improvement in arm strength after recovering from his AC sprain in 2025, and added five to ten yards to his range down the field. He's a big-game hunter when facing pressure, with some of the best throws coming off-balance, while some of his worst decisions come from the same sample. Able to move well enough in the pocket, but is by no means a rushing threat.

Rundown

Morton played in an air-raid offense at Texas Tech, which simplified reads, but also gave him the experience that comes with over 1,200 attempts. He has enough tools to be a camp arm with potential for a larger role.
