Scouting Report

Justin Joly is a success story in the new transfer portal structure. Originally a two-star wide receiver prospect, Joly committed to Connecticut and played his first two seasons there. He was recruited at 6-3 and 190, but is now listed at 251 pounds after completely changing his body composition to adapt to the tight end position. He was North Carolina State's leading receiver in 2024 and the team's primary red-zone target in 2025.

Joly added significant weight to move to tight end, but still has solid movement skills throughout his routes. He's snappy at the top of routes and consistently presents a solid target for his quarterback. He wins contested catches at a sizable clip, using all of his frame to box out defenders. Joly lacks the high-end speed to consistently threaten vertically, but is athletic enough to beat linebackers on shallow crossers. He is a net negative on any blocking assignments due to a high pad level and lack of technique. A strong Senior Bowl showing could move him up draft boards.

Rundown

Joly is a move tight end who can create matchup problems with size and surprising movement skills, but will struggle to earn playing time until his run-blocking improves.
