Scouting Report
Lance Mason spent his first three collegiate years at Missouri State while the Bears were still in the FCS. Quiet through his first two seasons, Mason had a big 2024, catching 590 yards and six touchdowns. He earned a spot on the MVFC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award List and entered the transfer portal. Playing as a senior at Wisconsin, a big step up from the talent he had previously faced, Mason led the team in receiving yards (398) and earned second-team All-Big Ten honors.
Mason won't beat guys with pure physicality, but he has a natural understanding of spacing. He uses subtle movements, such as head fakes and stutter steps, to create separation in short bursts. Once he gets the ball, he's good at using creative wiggle to pick up yards after the catch. Mason's biggest strength is his hands, where he's a consistent and reliable target with a massive catch radius. Unfortunately, Mason lacks the size and play strength to consistently hold up against NFL-level edge defenders in in-line situations. He was a reliable chain-mover in college, but it's tough to imagine that role expanding at the next level given his athletic limitations.
Rundown
Mason was a reliable and efficient college receiver whose game is built on feel, hands, and spacing rather than raw athleticism, projecting best as a rotational tight end.
