Scouting Report

Max Klare was an essential part of two different offenses in college. Originally a three-star recruit who played quarterback and tight end and even kicked, Klare committed to Purdue. He redshirted behind Payne Durham in 2022, then was the clear-cut starter heading into 2023. He broke his ankle early in the season, but had led the team in receiving before the injury. On a floundering squad in 2024, Klare was the leading receiver with more than twice as many receptions as any other player. He entered the transfer portal and finished his college career at Ohio State. Klare was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and an All-Big Ten academic selection once.

There are two different Max Klares on tape. At Purdue, he was about ten pounds lighter and was a fluid athlete who lined up all over the field. Natural hands-catcher with some concentration drops, but most of his drops are from taking massive hits at the catch point. He's better at long-striding crossing routes than actually separating from defenders on hard breaks. Then at Ohio State, he was asked to be part of a rotation and spend more time blocking in line. The added weight helped him deal with edge defenders, but he was less fluid when running routes down the field.

Rundown

Klare is a chameleon of a prospect. If a system asks him to be a receiving threat, he's shown the ability to move around the field. If they ask him to block in line, he can pack on the weight and get it done.
