Scouting Report

Nate Boerkircher grew up in Aurora, Nebraska, and arrived at Nebraska as a modestly recruited tight end who had to earn everything. After battling injuries early and seeing limited action in his first seasons, he worked his way into the rotation, earned a scholarship, and eventually became a starter for the Cornhuskers. He transferred to Texas A&M for his final season, where he maintained his identity as a power in-line tight end while emerging as a situational red-zone threat, catching a career-best three touchdowns.

Boerkircher's biggest strengths are as a blocker, where he can hold his own against interior and edge defenders. He keeps his pads square and has a thick base that he can anchor down or churn to relocate his targets. His receiving profile leaves a lot to be desired. He struggles to create separation, lacks the athleticism to generate yards after the catch, and doesn't consistently win at the catch point. While he can function as a short-yardage or red-zone option, his limitations as a receiver are likely to cap his overall upside.

Rundown

Boerkircher is an old-school, blocking-first tight end who functions as an extension of the offensive line and sees minimal receiving usage outside of occasional play-action or coverage-busting looks.
