Cam Skattebo

Skattebo has a lot of competition for playing time with Tyrone Tracy, Najee Harris and Devin Singletary in the backfield as well. Skattebo is probably overated and his rookie season overplayed his potential.

Skattebo is a dual-threat running back option on the Giants with new leadership, direction, and an abundance of offensive talent. The only major concern is how effective and sustainable he will be a year removed from major knee surgery. 

Last year, before his Week 8 ankle injury, Skattebo averaged 16.0 carries, 4.7 targets, and 96.3 yards with six TDs over six full games -- good for RB10 despite not starting until Week 4. In his three fully healthy starts, he was RB8. I have similar expectations this year.

Week 1 preseason usage lends credence to reports that the Giants will deploy a running-back-by-committee approach. Expectations were already too high for Skattebo 10 months removed from a broken fibula and a dislocated ankle.

John Harbaugh called Cam Skattebo a "top-tier back, and he's planning on playing that way this year."

Skattebo is back at practice despite a leg fracture and dislocated ankle. Before the injury , Skattebo looked every bit like a more explosive David Montgomery. 

Tyrone Tracy may spell Skattebo with greater frequency in September and October, but look for Skattebo to have a strong second half of the season. 

I expect Skattebo to compete for the leaderboard in rushing TDs. If he's a big part of the passing game, he could emerge as a top-five runner if everything falls right. 

For now, it's tough to put stats on that possiiblity or to assign a lot of targets to Skattebo based on recent iterations of John Harbaugh's offense that use the back as a play-action distraction.
