Joe Mixon was a top six fantasy back over the first 13 weeks in his first season in Houston. The rest of the season he ranked 44th with only 129 yards on 40 carries, with no touchdowns. The team signed Nick Chubb for a reason. Mixon will have good games, but his usage may be limited and a hot hand factor will play into it. The biggest worry is his uncertain return with an off season injury having zero indication of a return date

I have changed my stance on Mixon. After being bullish on his discount, I am no longer feeling excited about his chances this year. Unless something comes out soon that says he is healthy and available, I am staying away.

Blind optimism about already-injured players can wreck your fantasy season. But Mixon's ADP has overcorrected. He ranked as the RB6 in per-game scoring last year, and no other Round 8-9 running back offers that kind of ceiling. The risk is now worth the reward. Just be aware the risk is he plays zero games this season.

Mixon is an excellent running back -- a more experienced Breece Hall who may have lost a little bit of explosion with his game over the years.
But you know what I'm going to say if you're familiar with my work: A healthy Nick Chubb is the best back in football. Chubb is looking healthier. Mixon isn't.
It looks like Mixon joining the AFI list is a sign he'll miss part of the season. He could offer low-end starter value when he returns, but there's a chance Mixon could remain on the bench or as a low-end contributor if Chubb plays well.

Foot injury concerns have dropped his ranking significantly. He's a fantastic athlete and is 228 pounds. He's a rare talent that just had a great season in Houston, ranking fourth in opportunities per game (22.4), ninth in total yards per game (99.8), 10th in 10+ yard runs (28), 11th in 15+ yard runs (11), and 15th in Yards After Contact (716).

This is where I'm comfortable taking Mixon until I get clarification on the injury he's dealing with. The lack of information makes it incredibly difficult to invest anywhere near cost.
