Matt Waldman
Tua Tagovailoa will begin the season as Atlanta's starter while Michael Penix continues rehabbing a second torn ACL in his knee. Penix is throwing in OTAs, but he's not ready to start. The good thing for Atlanta's receiving corps is that both quarterbacks are lefties, which creates continuity for them as pass-catchers.
Tagovailoa lacks Penix's range and velocity as a thrower, but he has has strong accuracy with the throws in his wheelhouse. Kevin Stefanski and Tommy Rees will run an offense that uses multiple tight ends to enhance the ground game. This should set up the play-action passing game.
If Penix can return midseason and Tagovailoa struggles, Penix could reclaim the starting role this year. The big question for Penix is whether Rees and Stefanski will ask Penix to work from center or from shotgun. If it's the latter, Penix should have no problem adjusting to the scheme.

Michael Penix Jr. throwing in OTAs
The uncertainty of Michael Penix's return from a torn ACL led the Falcons to sign veteran Tua Tagovailoa. Penix's rehab seems to have ramped up as he seeks to enter the quarterback competition. Penix is throwing again six months after injuring his left knee in a game against the Panthers.
