Michael Penix Jr. ruled out again, Cooper Rush to start second straight game
The Atlanta Falcons' final injury report of the week confirms that QB Michael Penix Jr. will miss his second consecutive game. With Penix Jr. sidelined, QB Cooper Rush is set to start under center for Atlanta again this week.
Penix Jr. officially out, Tagovailoa doubtful; Rush confirmed as Week 2 starter
Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk reports that, with Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (knee) ruled out for Sunday's game and with QB Tua Tagovailoa (oblique) listed as doubtful, Cooper Rush is officially set to start, with Jack Strand as his backup.
Cooper Rush to start Week 2 as Penix Jr. ruled out, Tagovailoa still sidelined
Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports reports that Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski announced QB Cooper Rush will start Sunday against the Panthers after taking first-team reps in Friday's practice. Atlanta QB Michael Penix Jr., who is still recovering from last season's ACL tear, split first-team reps earlier in the week and was a full participant Wednesday and Thursday, but has been ruled out for Week 2. QB Tua Tagovailoa, who was originally named the season-opening starter, continues to be sidelined by an oblique injury. Undrafted rookie Jack Strand will serve as Rush's backup after Rush completed 12-of-22 passes for 143 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions in Atlanta's 20-13 Week 1 loss to the Steelers.
