Michael Penix Jr. has no injury designation, cleared to start Week 3
Tim Piotrowski of USAToday.com reports that Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. was a full participant in practice again and carries no injury designation heading into Week 3. Penix had been dealing with a knee issue but is now set to start on Thursday.
Tua Tagovailoa off injury report, set to be QB2 vs. Packers
Myles Simmons of ProFootballTalk.com reports that Falcons QB Tua Tagovailoa has no game status on Atlanta's final injury report of the week ahead of Thursday's game against Green Bay, meaning he is available to play. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said earlier Wednesday that Tagovailoa was trending toward being the backup behind QB Michael Penix Jr. this week, after Tagovailoa suffered an oblique injury during the season-opening week and Cooper Rush started the first two games while Penix recovered from reconstructive knee surgery. Elsewhere on the injury report, RB Bijan Robinson (ankle), DL Brandon Dorlus (thumb), TE Nick Muse (shoulder), and RT Jawaan Taylor (rib) are off the injury report and are set to play, while CB Billy Bowman (Achilles) is questionable and DE Samson Ebukam (hamstring) is out.
Penix confirms he'll start Thursday: 'Being healthy was what I was targeting'
Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. is set to make his first start since last November when Atlanta faces the Packers on Thursday night. Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com reports that Penix said his return was purely health-based, not related to bye-week timing or the team's slow start. "Being healthy is what I was targeting. I was never no week-to-week thing," Penix said, adding that lingering soreness went away late last week after he pushed his knee to the limit in a workout and it "responded good." "I knew I wasn't where I needed to be the first two weeks and now I feel like I'm where I want to be, so that's why you'll see me up this week," he said.}on you'll see me up this week," he said.
