Rashee Rice

With three seasons in the NFL and only 12 games in the last two years he is a risk on that front alone. Add in his inability to be a good citizen off the field he remains a constant risk for longevity in the NFL. He may produce an elite season, but he won't do it on my roster. The odds are against it.

Rice's off-the-field concerns lower his ranking, but he is the primary target earner for Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, using his elite ability after the catch to secure a very high weekly floor. The Chiefs' ability to score touchdowns will play heavily into the level of success that Rice has this season. 

Provisional ranking until we gain clarity on his status after his 30-dail jail sentence and knee cleanup procedure.

Seems like he'll avoid another suspension (until his next poor decision), which sets him up nicely as the Chiefs' WR1. Will they still need to feed him so many layup targets now that they may actually have a running game to speak of?

Rice's off-field issues cloud his long-term outlook with the Chiefs but he's on track to lead Kansas City in receiving once again. Rice's wheelhouse as a receiver is yards after the catch and Kansas City has made him an extension of the running game. 

Barring a complication with the rehab of his knee injury, another off-field issue, or a likely four-game suspension this year, we believe we'll see WR1 value on at least a points-per-game level. 

Rice averaged 18.5 points per game during his 8-game stint on the field -- fifth-best among receivers last year. If you take this rate of play and extrapolate it to 13 games, Rice still would have been a fantasy WR1 last year -- WR9 between Chris Olave and Davante Adams. 

The problem is that he's still not returned to form this late in the summer. I'm concerned. 

There is no denying the talent, but the red flags are aplenty. Between injury and off-field issues, the risk is off the charts.
