Trey Benson

When the Cardinals drafted Benson with the 66th overall pick in the 2024 draft it was expected he would transition into the role as the aging James Conner was phased out. Someone forgot to tell Conner as he had a career peak in carries and yardage. Playing all games until the season finale helped. Historically Conner has missed two to six games every year. Expect that to happen in 2025.  Pass protection was Benson's biggest concern in 2024, and the player and team have worked hard on that entering this year. Conner himself even projects a significant time share this season. Benson's ability was not in question. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry on 63 rushing attempts. It is now or never for the former Florida State Seminole. He has an excellent chance to easily outperform his ADP.

Waiting his turn as James Conner continues to defy the age decline. Should be a fantasy starter when he gets his shot.

Entering his second year, Benson hopes to work his way into the Cardinals' starting rotation so he can earn a split with James Conner. A wily vet who understands how to prepare his body for the rigors of the game, Conner will likely maintain the majority share of the backfield volume this year. 

However, there is room for Benson to carve a role and expand that role with his homerun speed. If Benson can prove more efficient and versatile at the position than he was as a rookie, he could become a viable fantasy option by year's end. 

Ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at 216 pounds. Exciting athlete who can hit home runs. Clear backup to James Conner, but has high contingent upside should Conner get injured.
