Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was released from jail on Wednesday after his arrest on several domestic violence charges.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the Brown County (Wisconsin) District Attorney's Office said the investigation "remains open and ongoing."

"After reviewing the available evidence in this case, the Brown County District Attorney's Office is not yet prepared to make a formal charging decision," District Attorney David L. Lasee said in a statement. "Our office has requested additional investigation, as there is reason to believe that additional evidence may exist that would impact whether criminal charges are appropriate."

Jacobs, 28, was booked Tuesday on charges of battery/domestic abuse, criminal damage to property/domestic abuse, disorderly conduct/domestic abuse, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim.

According to Brown County jail records, the strangulation and suffocation charge is a felony, and the other four charges are misdemeanors.

Jacobs, through his attorneys, denied the allegations on Tuesday.

As ESPN.com reported, the Packers said they were aware of the matter involving Jacobs, as did the NFL, which said it had been in contact with the Packers, who began OTAs on Tuesday.

While it's far too early to fully assess the complete fallout, it's not too early to start gaining an understanding of it.

About Jacobs

Jacobs, a first-team All-Pro selection in 2022 while with the Las Vegas Raiders and a three-time Pro Bowl selection, is entering his third season with the Packers after signing with the team in free agency in 2024.

Last season, he scored 14 total touchdowns (13 rushing) and totaled 1,211 yards in 15 games.

Jacobs' current Footballguys projection calls for an RB14 finish. That falls into line with his current RB14 Average Draft Position (ADP). Jacobs is being drafted in the middle of the third round, with the 28th pick overall.

While it's possible the latest developments are the end of the story, it's also possible they're not. So let's review the situation in full to be ready for whatever happens.

Who's the Next Man Up?

The Packers let running back Emanuel Wilson depart in free agency and did not replace him with a pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, potentially providing the first signal of the team's remaining confidence in 2024 third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd.

But there's an issue.

Since joining the Packers as a third-round pick in 2024, Lloyd has suffered hip, hamstring, ankle, groin, and calf injuries, including recurring hamstring issues, plus an appendix issue that required surgery.

He appeared in Week 2 of the 2024 season but has not played in a regular-season game since.

General manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters in April that while you can't count on Lloyd staying healthy, you can count on his talent.

Gutekunst added that the team feels comfortable with Chris Brooks on board.

"If [Lloyd is] healthy, we know he can help us," Gutekunst said. "Bringing Chris Brooks back was a big part of that; we have a lot of faith in him. I feel good about that group."

The Packers also have Pierre Strong Jr. and Damien Martinez, a seventh-round pick by Seattle, who fits the Green Bay preference as a power back.
