Aiyuk and the 49ers are at a standoff. Aiyuk was on the verge of becoming one of the elite receivers in football before a knee injury.
There are reoprts Aiyuk failed to rehab his injury properly and won't be the same athlete. There are concerns Aiyuk no longer has the mindset of a professional and won't be ready to contribute if the 49ers are successful in trading him.
The best approach with Aiyuk this season is to monitor the news, hope for a trade, and hope that his knee is healthier than the reports speculate. At that point, you can consider him on your waiver-wire as a low-risk, high-reward option.
Skepticism is the operating principle here.

Brandon Aiyuk continues to be his own biggest obstacle
Receiver Brandon Aiyuk's path to free agency is simple. One, file a petition with the league for reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list. Two, once reinstated, show up for training camp. At that point, the 49ers most likely would release him. Aiyuk has made it clear that he won't be doing that. In his latest Instagram story -- which consists of a statement, not a video -- Aiyuk says this: "I will not be reinstating with them or ever doing any kind of business with them. I'm locked in and focused on my opportunity to return to the field this season! #RAISEHAIL"
Jayden Daniels sours on Brandon Aiyuk
Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, and embattled San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk, apparently have had a beef on social media. Aiyuk wanted to play with his former Arizona State teammate, as he has had a very public contract dispute with his current team. It was thought he would eventually land in Washington, the only team to show any remote interest in him, but after Aiyuk insulted Daniels' mother, who is also his agent, that landing spot might no longer be in the cards. 'Enjoy retirement, pal,' Daniels posted on social media, tagging Aiyuk, before pulling it down later.
