Two begin on reserve/injured list
Detroit Lions S Brian Branch (Achilles) and S Kerby Joseph (knee) will each begin the season on the reserve/injured list with a designation to return. They'll be required to miss a minimum of four games.
Safeties targeting early September return
Detroit Lions S Brian Branch (Achilles) and S Kerby Joseph (knee) could both return around the same time, according to ESPN's Eric Woodyard, who writes that the team envisions them being back at practice late in training camp or early September. Both players are currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Several Detroit players battling injuries
Detroit Lions S Brian Branch (PUP - Achilles), S Kerby Joseph (PUP - knee), OT Giovanni Manu (NFI), DE Derrick Moore (groin), LB Malcolm Rodriguez (ankle), LB Jimmy Rolder (leg), OG Juice Scruggs (undisclosed), DE Payton Turner (back), RB Sione Vaki (nose, eye) and DT Mekhi Wingo (groin) are dealing with injuries, and absent from practice.
