Haener signed to back up Winston, Harbaugh says 'all options are open' at QB
The Giants signed QB Jake Haener to the active roster to back up QB Jameis Winston, who makes his first start of the season against the Titans on Sunday with QB Jaxson Dart sidelined for the rest of the regular season. "All options are open," head coach John Harbaugh said of adding another quarterback, with free agent Jimmy Garoppolo, the Cardinals' Gardner Minshew II, the Vikings' J.J. McCarthy, the 49ers' Mac Jones and the Chiefs' Justin Fields among the Giants' targets, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Whoever the Giants add will sit behind Winston to start, as Harbaugh and OC Matt Nagy are "building the offense around" the veteran. Winston went 11-for-27 for 111 yards with an interception after replacing Dart in Monday's 28-6 loss to the Rams.
Giants' QB options include Garoppolo, Minshew, McCarthy, Mac Jones, Fields
The Giants' list of quarterback options includes free agent QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Cardinals backup QB Gardner Minshew II, Vikings reserve QB J.J. McCarthy, 49ers backup QB Mac Jones and Chiefs backup QB Justin Fields. Giants QB Jameis Winston is set to start Sunday's Week 3 game against the Titans, and the team's pursuit of a veteran quarterback will depend on how well he performs.
Joe Flacco shoots down Giants trade rumors: 'It's obviously not real and not true'
Bengals QB Joe Flacco dismissed speculation linking him to a trade to the Giants following Jaxson Dart's knee injury, telling The Cincinnati Enquirer late Thursday, "It's obviously not real and not true." Flacco added, "I just get a kick out of it. I haven't really given it too much thought at this point." The 41-year-old signed a one-year deal worth $9 million with incentives in March to back up Joe Burrow. Giants QB Jameis Winston, who replaced Dart, completed 11-of-27 passes for 111 yards and an interception in Monday night's 28-6 loss to the Rams.
