Each week in Cutting Through the Noise, we will take an objective look at one of the most polarizing players in Dynasty Fantasy Football as decided by the Footballguys Dynasty Discord. We will use the Footballguys consensus rankings to gauge where the player is currently valued.
Trevor Lawrence
QB10 and Overall No. 75
In December of 2016 five-star recruit, Trevor Lawrence committed to Clemson University. He was widely regarded as the best high school quarterback of all time. As a true freshman, he would have no issue living up to his hype. He led the Tigers to a perfect 15-0 record ending in a national championship win over Alabama. Lawrence passed for 3,280 yards and 30 touchdowns with just four interceptions.
Over his three seasons, he managed to pass for over 10,000 yards and throw 90 touchdowns with just 17 interceptions. He appeared in a second National championship, this time losing the most prolific college offensive of all time in the Joe Burrow-led LSU Tigers. He capped off his collegiate career by becoming just the second player in Clemson history to finish as the runner-up in Heisman voting. He lost to DeVonta Smith by 669 points.
Aside from falling just short in Heisman voting, Lawrence’s career could not have gotten started on a better foot. While many drafts have some ambiguity around the top overall pick, 2021 was a no-brainer. Lawrence was selected first overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars and paired with new head coach Urban Meyer. Meyer managed to run himself out of town with one of the strangest head coaching debacles we’ve ever seen after leading the Jaguars to a 3-14 record.
