Welcome to the Dynasty Trading Post, where we examine optimizing strategy, roster construction, format, and player value oscillations every week, providing examples and completed dynasty trades.

This week, we'll focus on a new rookie starting quarterback and an escalating tight end producer.

QB Dillon Gabriel, Cleveland

Theme of the Week: Strike While the Iron is Hot

It has been a great week for the dynasty stock of Dillon Gabriel. First, Gabriel was announced as the starter, and then Joe Flacco was traded to Cincinnati. The runway for an extended starting opportunity is here for Gabriel. Also, Gabriel had a positive debut against a daunting Minnesota defense. Gabriel and the Browns were leading in the fourth quarter before a game-winning drive by Carson Wentz and the Vikings. Gabriel was not overwhelmed in his first NFL start, showing poise in the pocket and avoiding pressure. After the Minnesota matchup, Gabriel now enjoys a strong stretch of matchups (PIT, MIA, NE, NYJ, BAL) sandwiched around a Week 9 bye.

Here are a few key trades involving Dillon Gabriel this week:

The general market is returning a 2nd+ for Gabriel. Ideally, use Gabriel as a stepping stone to a strong quarterback profile (see Brock Purdy trade) or add to Gabriel to get a future 1st. The schedule is conducive for Gabriel to post a strong box score or two in the near future, so patience is warranted if not receiving the right package in return this week. If overtly strong at quarterback, taking a 2nd+ this week is a quality early exit if hand-selecting a 2nd, which is a fringe playoff team or a team in the 2-3 or 3-2 record range with poor underlying metrics.

TE Darren Waller, Miami
