Week 15 encompassed a myriad of big storylines, from Philip Rivers coming out of a five-year NFL retirement and nearly beating Seattle to Micah Parsons' season-ending knee injury. However, no story has the same NFL, fantasy, and dynasty impact on trading activity as Patrick Mahomes II's season-ending ACL tear, which calls into question Travis Kelce's and Andy Reid's futures and the Chiefs' recent run of dominance. Week 15, with a few short minutes left in the game (and the Chiefs' season), was the nexus point with Mahomes' knee buckling on a rollout to the sideline.
Patrick Mahomes II ranks QB3 in PPG through Week 15, a pronounced fantasy bounce-back from his QB8 and QB9 aPPG finishes in the previous two seasons, when fantasy at large began to question Mahomes' fantasy ceiling despite continued NFL success.
Dating back to the mid-1990s, Peyton Manning is the only other quarterback to have similar fantasy success through nine seasons compared to Patrick Mahomes II. Josh Allen is currently playing Year 8 and is on a similar trajectory.
That said, the market has already started to slip in the 2025 offseason with Mahomes due to age (crazy to say as a 30-year-old) and two seasons as a mid-lower QB1. Mahomes is now the oldest quarterback in the top 10 for the position in the dynasty market.
