Here are some players to consider picking up this week, if available, to get ahead of the other managers in your league. Remember that your roster can constantly improve, and even if you don’t need a player, you still want to prevent them from being picked up by another manager.
Week 5 brings the start of bye weeks, so make sure that you are not in for any shocking lineup surprises.
Beat the Waiver Wire: No-Brainers
In most leagues, these guys aren't available. But if you're fortunate enough to see them on the waiver wire, grab them.
Jordyn Tyson, New Orleans Saints (34.1% rostered on ESPN)
If your league has an IR spot, Tyson should already be rostered, but if it does not, grab him now. He is eligible to return after Week 4, and he was my WR1 in this draft class. Couple that with Tyler Shough, the QB3 through three weeks, and Kellen Moore's explosive playcalling, and you could get something special in fantasy football.
Beat the Waiver Wire: Quarterbacks
Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals (7.9% rostered in ESPN)
Brissett may already be gone in your league, but the Arizona offense has been pleasantly surprising, at least for fantasy, pushing Brissett forward as an option, especially with the issues with Drake Maye and the like. Brissett has a great couple of matchups on the horizon, but he held his own against a tough San Francisco matchup, finishing with 280 yards passing and 2 touchdowns on a massive 52 passing attempts. That is what you are chasing if you have Brissett on your fantasy team - that number of attempts helps soften even the worst matchup. The Cardinals also have a late Week 14 bye.
J.J. McCarthy, New York Giants (1.4% rostered in ESPN)
McCarthy could be a boat, or he might never see the field. It is uncertain, but this is what this article is about - preemptive moves that might be risky, but could ultimately pay off. We love Jameis Winston, but if the team starts losing, I believe Harbaugh will move quickly to McCarthy. With the myriad of quarterback injuries that have already happened this season, there is a good chance you need at least some help at the position.
Just a reminder to check your waiver wire for: Marcus Mariota (15.2%)
