Every week, the NFL delivers a remarkable range of stories. I like to use this spot to encapsulate that broad expanse here.

The Good: Real Money
The Chiefs are adding two years to Patrick Mahomes II's contract in a reworked contract that ties him to Kansas City through 2033 at $504.75 million, which makes it the first NFL deal worth over half a billion dollars.
The new money is worth $239.05 million, with the total value now at $504.75 million from 2026 through 2033, with the first four years being guaranteed at signing.
All $504.75 million becomes guaranteed through contract mechanisms.
The Chiefs have now committed $689.05 million in new money to Mahomes from 2022 to 2033, in hopes of extending one of the great dynasties in NFL history.
Mahomes, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL and LCL on Dec. 14, 2025, and underwent surgery the next day, has been able to participate in drills throughout OTAs and the team's minicamp, which has head coach Andy Reid feeling confident about the start of training camp.
Reid told reporters at a Thursday press conference that "the healing process has to keep taking place," but that what he's seen from Mahomes over the last few months bodes well for his activity level this summer.
A well-compensated Mahomes being on the field Week 1 is about as good as it gets.
Better still, with the veteran signal caller currently being drafted as QB13 in Round 8, fantasy investors are getting a discount the Chiefs didn't.
