Updates from Week 1

Preseason Updates: Quarterbacks

Lamar Jackson remains the center of the offense as HC Jesse Minter and OC Declan Doyle begin their first year with the team. Minter noted, via ESPN's Jamison Hensley, that Jackson is "unbelievably further ahead" in the new offense from the first practices in May. Defensive leader Kyle Hamilton added, "I feel like he might've gotten faster somehow. I don't want to age him, but he's turning a certain age next year [January], and it doesn't seem like that. I feel like he got faster. I feel like he ran today. It was really fast." Jackson believes his best football is ahead: "Because each and every year you're getting older, your mind is getting sharper. Everything is slowing down even more. It's like you've seen anything a defense can bring at you." The Ravens re-signed backup Tyler Huntley to a two-year deal. Jackson and Huntley share a close relationship as they enter their sixth year together, having first crossed paths in the 2014 Florida District 15-6A playoffs, where Huntley led Hallandale to a win over Jackson's Boynton Beach. Skylar Thompson and rookie Joe Fagnano round out the current roster after former Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia was released on Day 1 of camp. The Ravens are expected to keep just two quarterbacks through final cuts.

Preseason Updates: Running Backs

Derrick Henry has no plans to retire, telling Hensley, "I don't try to enter another season thinking about retiring and have that on my mind. That's not even my mindset. My mindset is how can I get better, so we can be the best team we can be. I haven't thought about retirement at all." Justice Hill returns as the clear backup to Henry. Hill praised Doyle, calling him the most detail-oriented offensive coordinator he has been with. Speculation has Rasheen Ali firmly on the roster bubble, as rookie Adam Randall could eliminate the need for four running backs. Randall's physicality has stood out since pads went on, and his skill as a converted wide receiver has shown as well. The Ravens keeping only three backs would put Randall firmly on the fantasy radar.
