Scouting Report
Eli Stowers blurs the line between tight end and slot receiver. He ran and jumped for his high school track team and was originally a four-star quarterback recruit, committed to Texas A&M. Stowers never really touched the field, so he transferred to New Mexico State, expecting more playing time. There, he ran into a small-school transfer, Diego Pavia, who won the job, and Stowers transitioned to tight end. After the 2023 season, both Pavia and Stowers transferred to Vanderbilt, contributing to the Commodores' best seasons in program history. Stowers' performance earned him the 2025 Mackey Award.
Stowers is a fluid mover for his size and makes an immediate impact in the receiving game. He's a natural hands-catcher who can extend his full frame to pluck the ball out of the air. Stowers is more of a receiver than a blocker, and he often struggles to get leverage in the run game. He played all over the field for Vanderbilt, and his experience as a quarterback helped him find the soft spots in zone defenses. Despite his age, he's still learning some basics of the position (such as attacking press and run blocking), so there is plenty of room to grow.
Rundown
Stowers is a natural athlete who benefited from a telepathic connection with Diego Pavia in college. If he continues on his upward trajectory, Stowers can make a lasting impact on a team's receiving game.
