It's tempting to give Breece Hall a wide berth with the depth at the position, Justin Fields at QB and a new head coach. I expect Hall, one of the most talented runners of recent years, to be let loose.

Hall was a massive disappointment last season despite appearing in 16 games. New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn stated in April that he wants Hall to be part of a committee in 2025, and the Jets have enough young talent at running back to make Glenn's wishes a reality.

Breece Hall is one of the most gifted runners in the NFL. He has the talent to rival Christian McCaffrey as a versatile workhorse.

There's too much working against him to reach that ceiling. Is Hall truly back from the knee injury he suffered earlier in his Jets' career? Will Justin Fields and/or Braelon Allen hurt Hall's red-zone value? Why are the Jets so set on using Allen, a plowhorse in talent relative to Hall's thoroughbred skills?

It's the most frustrating utilization of talent at the RB spot in the league. Hey Woody, did Brick begin playing Madden after Hall was drafted? Get him the version with Hall at Iowa State, please.

Breece Hall is an amazing athlete at 217 pounds. He ran a 4.39 40-yard dash and posted jumps of a 40" vertical and a 10'06" broad. He racked up elite production in college, totaling 1,149 yards and 10 touchdowns as a freshman, 1,752 yards and 23 touchdowns as a sophomore, and 1,766 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior. And he has already posted proven production in the NFL prior to and after his rookie season ACL tear. He's the total package.

I’m higher than consensus on Breece.

The addition of Tanner Engstrand (passing game coordinator in Detroit last season) at OC is a big reason why.

Breece’s 10.5 percent explosive rate (percent of rushing plays that were in the top 10 percentile of yards gained) was the sixth-highest in the NFL last season among RBs with 200 or more carries. Despite New York's offensive line issues (1.05 yards before contact per carry, 25th in the NFL) Breece still averaged 4.2 yards per carry, which was in line with expectations.

In short, Hall is an explosive back who didn’t underperform relative to expectations. He’s transitioning to a scheme that will likely be influenced by the system that not only supported two productive backs but produced one of the NFL’s most explosive players.

He's still young and I still believe. He's a valuable piece even if he ends up in a timeshare.
