Halloween is here, and fantasy managers have plenty of reasons to be spooked heading into Week 8. Between lingering injuries, questionable designations, and players returning from the dead (or at least injured reserve), setting your lineup feels like navigating a haunted house. Some players are treats, others are tricks, and a few might turn your fantasy matchup into a nightmare.
Enough of the "pun-kins" and to the serious stuff... okay, that was the last one, I promise.
Understanding the NFL's Injury Report
(per Dr. Bramel - Footballguys OG)
"The injury report released by the NFL is [made up of] two reports. The first is the Practice Participation report, which lists which injured players practiced and their participation level. It also includes players who rested or missed practice for non-injury-related reasons. The second is the Game Status Report, which gives the probability that a player will play, i.e., Questionable, Doubtful, Out. The Practice Participation Report is released every day of the week (Monday through Saturday). The Game Status Report is released with the Friday participation report (Wednesday for Thursday games, Saturday for Monday games). In this feature, I'll include the Game Status Listing and my expectations of their likelihood of playing."
- Gameday Decision = this is going to come down to how the player feels in pre-game warmups
- Trending Doubtful = Likely Inactive
- Trending Probable = Likely Active
- Ruled Out = This player has already been ruled out; get him out of lineups!
If you are reading this article on Saturday, come back Sunday morning as more updates trickle in over the next 24 hours.

* Key: Player, Team | Injury | Game Status Listing | Playing Projection
Sunday 1:00 PM EST Games
WR Jakobi Meyers, Jacksonville | Hamstring/Ankle | Questionable | Projecting Inactive
Jakobi Meyers was limited in practice earlier this week while dealing with two separate injuries before being downgraded to a DNP on Friday. Although Meyers himself didn't seem overly concerned about his availability, we've seen plenty of examples of players downplaying injuries only to miss time.
#Jaguars rule out S Antonio Johnson (ankle) vs. Colts. WR Jakobi Meyers (hamstring/ankle) is questionable. He did not practice Friday but told me in locker room today he felt okay.
— Demetrius Harvey (@Demetrius82) October 30, 2026
While I respect Meyers' optimism, his declining practice participation has me skeptical that he suits up this week. Even if he does play, his underwhelming production this season, combined with multiple injury designations, makes him a player I would avoid in fantasy lineups.
WR George Pickens, Dallas | Hamstring/Shoulder | Questionable | Projecting Active
George Pickens is expected to play in Week 8 despite adding a hamstring injury designation this week. Fantasy managers may recall that Pickens was questionable heading into Week 7 with a shoulder injury, and he now carries a dual injury designation involving both his hamstring and shoulder.
Cowboys WR George Pickens is listed as questionable for Sunday, but he is expected to play. Quinnen Williams and Caleb Downs were full participants in practice Friday after being limited earlier in the week. They are both good to go for Sunday. KaVontae Turpin and Dee Winters have been ruled out.
— Jon Machota (@jonmachota) October 30, 2026
Despite the new hamstring designation, Pickens was limited in practice all week. Had he suffered a significant hamstring strain during practice, I would have expected him to be listed as a DNP rather than continuing to participate on a limited basis. All reports out of Dallas suggest Pickens will suit up, and I expect him to be available for fantasy managers to confidently insert into their starting lineups.
RB Kenny Gainwell, Tampa Bay | Hip | Questionable | Projecting Active
Kenny Gainwell is listed as questionable for Week 8 with a hip injury, but his return to practice has me leaning toward him being active.
Gainwell has not been particularly fantasy relevant this season, and even if he suits up, I would not expect him to significantly impact Bucky Irving's workload. Injury designation or not, Gainwell has yet to carve out a meaningful role in this backfield, and I don't anticipate that changing this week.
TE Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo | Chest | Questionable | Projecting Active
Dalton Kincaid was limited in practice all week with a chest injury and is officially questionable for Week 8. Although Kincaid has yet to log a full practice, this participation trend is not necessarily concerning. Players dealing with chest injuries often have their practice participation limited to avoid unnecessary contact. Historically, these practice trends have been associated with favorable availability outcomes. Based on this information, I currently project Kincaid to play in Week 8.
WR DJ Moore, Buffalo | Shoulder | Questionable | Projecting Active
DJ Moore was limited in practice all week as he continues to recover from an AC joint sprain.
Moore has already had three weeks to recover from this injury, but AC joint injuries carry a high risk of reinjury. Given this risk, Buffalo will likely want to be confident in Moore's recovery before clearing him to return. It is worth noting that this recovery timeline is along the normal timeframe, but Moore likely suffered a setback after originally sustaining the injury in Week 2.
Historically, players returning from AC joint sprains have shown inconsistent availability trends, regardless of whether they log limited or full practices. For now, I consider Moore a true game-time decision for Week 8.
RB Breece Hall, NY Jets | Quadriceps | Questionable | Projecting Inactive
Breece Hall is questionable yet again after missing the past four weeks with a quadriceps strain. While significant quad injuries can require extended recovery periods, Hall is entering outlier territory, as only 11% of running backs with quadriceps injuries miss five or more weeks.
Of course, this is also the time of year when trade rumors swirl and "injuries" seem to linger a little longer than expected. I suspect Hall will need to log at least one full practice before returning, which is why I currently project him to be inactive. Between the prolonged absence, limited practice participation, and trade speculation, this has become one of the more confusing injury situations to follow.
Sunday 4:25 PM EST Games
WR A.J. Brown, New England | Knee | Questionable | Projecting Inactive
A.J. Brown continues to be one of the more frustrating injury situations to follow. Brown returned sooner than expected from his high ankle sprain but clearly did not look 100%. Now, heading into Week 8, he is listed as questionable with both knee and ankle injuries.
Fantasy managers may recall that Brown has dealt with knee issues in the past, raising concerns about his long-term durability. Despite the dual injury designations, Brown still has a chance to suit up this week. His absence from Friday's practice is concerning, as this typically points toward a player being inactive. However, given the unique circumstances, I still think there's a reasonable chance Brown plays.
Even if active, I would significantly temper expectations. Historically, wide receivers returning from high ankle sprains tend to experience lingering performance declines, and adding a knee injury only complicates matters. At this point, Brown is nowhere near the WR1 ceiling fantasy managers drafted him for, especially given the current state of the Patriots' offense. He remains a risky fantasy option with a concerning floor.
WR Jaylen Waddle, Denver | Chest | Questionable | Projecting Active
I was initially skeptical that Jaylen Waddle would be available for Week 8 after aggravating his chest injury last Sunday. Although Waddle has been limited in practice this week, that isn't necessarily surprising given the nature of his injury. Limited participation allows the team to manage his discomfort while avoiding unnecessary contact. Despite my initial concerns, I'm becoming more optimistic about his availability and now lean toward Waddle playing in Week 8.
Sunday Night 8:20 PM EST Game
RB Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia | Knee | Off Injury Report | Will Play
Saquon Barkley is officially off the final injury report despite dealing with back and hamstring injuries. Barkley appeared hobbled throughout Week 7 but managed to play through both injuries and deliver a respectable fantasy performance.
The Eagles are also extremely thin at running back, with Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley, and now Dameon Pierce all landing on injured reserve. Given Barkley's ongoing injury concerns, I think Jaydon Blue or Elijah Mitchell are worth rostering as depth pieces.
For now, Barkley remains a must-start option, but I would temper expectations moving forward. Philadelphia's offense has struggled, Jalen Hurts is out for the season, and the offensive line has been underwhelming. Between the lingering injuries and the current state of the Eagles' offense, I view Barkley as a low-end RB2 moving forward.
Monday Night 8:15 PM EST Game
RB Kyle Monangai, Chicago | Turf Toe | Questionable | Projecting Inactive
Kyle Monangai has yet to practice this week as he continues to recover from a turf toe injury. Although the team initially suggested a 1–2 week timeline, these injuries are typically more limiting, with recovery often closer to four weeks. Given his lack of practice participation, I would not be surprised if Monangai remains sidelined in Week 8.
Update: As expected, Monangai is out.
RB Zach Charbonnet | Knee | Questionable | Projecting Active
Zach Charbonnet was limited in practice Friday after being a full participant earlier in the week. However, this change in participation could have been weather-related rather than a setback in his recovery.
#Seahawks were outside for rainy practice today, so not surprised a few players were held back some, including Zach Charbonnet. But Jadarian Price, Drake Thomas, and Leonard Williams all jumping up to full participants. https://t.co/GOh09eAuiv
— Corbin K. Smith (@CorbinSmithNFL) October 30, 2026
There was speculation that Charbonnet was nearing a return and could immediately take on a significant workload. However, given his recovery timeline following an ACL tear and some uncertainty surrounding his practice participation, I would prefer to leave him on fantasy benches until we see how he looks on the field.
I still expect Charbonnet to play this week, but I anticipate a gradual ramp-up in workload. While I'm cautious about his immediate fantasy outlook, I'm optimistic about his rest-of-season potential.
WR Rashid Shaheed, Seattle | Knee | Questionable | Projecting Inactive
Rashid Shaheed exited last week's game with a knee injury, and we still haven't received clarification on the specifics. However, his continued absence from practice suggests the injury could be more significant than initially anticipated. Given the lack of practice participation, I'm leaning toward Shaheed missing Week 8.
