I'm an Oronde Gadsden skeptic. The second-year tight end is a big and slow receiver with a good catch radius but a limited route tree. He's earned more buzz than his actual value, and opposing NFL defenses figured him out late last year.
Kolar is more of a Mark Andrews type of talent against zone coverage and in tight spaces. Because he backed up Andrews and Isaiah Likely offered a different athletic profile for the offense, Kolar was an unsung commodity on the Ravens' depth chart.
The Chargers signed Kolar to a nice free agent deal relative to his station with the Ravens. Look for Kolar to be an active TE2 and Gadsden to fade into the depth chart.
