Rico Dowdle DNP Wednesday with toe injury, Warren limited with shoulder
Steelers.com reports that RB Rico Dowdle did not practice on Wednesday due to a toe injury suffered against the Patriots, during which he had seven carries for 22 yards before exiting. RB Jaylen Warren was limited in practice with a shoulder injury. WR Michael Pittman Jr. (foot) was also limited on Wednesday, with Coach Mike McCarthy saying, 'He's going to work today' and adding that a plan is being set based on his morning evaluation. CB Joey Porter Jr., dealing with a back injury, was limited as well and listed as not injury related/conditioning.
Angelichio backs Metcalf despite drops; Bernard shines in Pittman's absence
Steelers.com reports that offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio expressed continued confidence in WR DK Metcalf, who has caught 8 of 19 targets through two games while struggling with drops. "We believe in DK," Angelichio said. "We're just going to keep practicing and keep believing in DK. We know he'll be the player we want him to be." Rookie WR Germie Bernard saw extensive action for the first time due to WR Michael Pittman Jr.'s unavailability (foot), catching four passes for 35 yards on eight targets after playing just three offensive snaps in Week 1; Angelichio said Bernard "showed some strides" and "took some steps forward."
Michael Pittman Jr. downgraded to out for Week 2 with foot injury
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that Steelers WR Michael Pittman Jr. has been downgraded to out for Sunday's Week 2 game at New England with a foot injury. Pittman was listed as questionable after being a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, then did not practice Thursday or Friday.
