Justin Herbert always looks great in September. Then injuries hit him and his teammates and an excuse is found for why he underperforms. This year optimism is high with Mike McDaniel running the offense and everyone being fit. Mental note to not get carried away after the first three weeks of the season.

As the offensive line injuries mount, it's getting harder to see the best-cast breakout I thought we would. But the talent finally has the coaching to match, so the arrow continues pointing higher.

Hit offseason jackpot with Mike McDaniel hire, but should also run less than he did last year. Offensive line needs to stop string of bad injury luck for him to really take off.

Talent is there to get Herbert into the top tier, but it won't matter if his offensive line can't protect him.
