The drum beat has been somewhat quiet for the Jets rookie tight end but that could change during the regular season. He's a great TE2/TE3 to target who has the potential for more.
Matt Waldman
Sadiq's speed and acrobatic catches on highlight reels influenced the Jets to take him as a weapon. It could pan out for New York because there's some Delanie Walker to Sadiq's potential.
For that to happen, Sadiq must learn to run zone routes at his timed speed. In college, Sadiq didn't get open nearly as often as he should have downfield because he was slow to process coverage.
There are also isolated bouts with drops that could get magnified at this advanced level -- flaws usually do in the NFL.
Also, Mason Taylor may not have looked like it in the stats column, but he's a better all-around option. Jeremy Rucker is a better blocker. If the Jets go two tight ends as a big part of the offense, Sadiq would not be the wisest choice.
If they use Sadiq as a slot, I'm not sure he's ready to the teams WR2-WR3. He's a bet on the future, but a shaky consideration for the present.

Talent can overcome landing spot, and that's what will have to happen for Sadiq to pay off his mid-first rookie draft ADP. Had the Jets used their other first-round pick on someone other than a receiver like KC Concepcion, who also operates in the same area; or not spent a high-second last year to get Mason Taylor, a pass-catching tight end; or not extended Garrett Wilson, who lines up in the slot frequently; or not extended Breece Hall, who's effective as a check-down option, then I'd bet on Sadiq's talent overcoming the Jets' car crash they've created in the middle of the field.
