Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett appeared to slight WR Michael Wilson while addressing WR Marvin Harrison Jr.'s early-season struggles. The comments drew Wilson into the ongoing drama surrounding Harrison Jr.
Brissett: 'Nobody's lost confidence in Marv' amid effort criticism, trade buzz
Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk.com reports that Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett and coach Mike LaFleur defended WR Marvin Harrison Jr. on Wednesday after a viral video sparked questions about his effort level. "Nobody's lost confidence in Marv," Brissett said, via Tyler Drake of Arizona Sports, adding that Harrison is 'giving 110 percent' despite outside noise about his production. Harrison has just one catch for 33 yards on four targets through two games, and LaFleur said Harrison's running style is 'different' but that his teammates don't view him as jogging through routes. Dan Graziano of ESPN reports that league executives wonder whether Arizona could shop Harrison before the trade deadline, with the Texans among teams that could seek help at receiver.
Harrison Jr.'s stock 'continues to plummet' after one catch in Week 2
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said on Wednesday that Jacksonville WR/CB Travis Hunter will see increased offensive usage against the Patriots in Week 3. Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk.com reports that Coen called Hunter's role "a balancing act that you're continuously working through," adding, "We're gonna look at giving him some more this week." In Week 2, Hunter played cornerback on 60 percent of defensive snaps but was on the field for only 10 percent of offensive snaps.
LaFleur downplays Harrison Jr.'s low targets: 'It's a long season'
Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur addressed WR Marvin Harrison Jr.'s low target total on Monday, per Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons. Harrison has just one catch for 33 yards on four targets through two games despite playing 77 percent of Arizona's offensive snaps. LaFleur said the lack of production isn't about effort, noting 'his running style is different than some other people's' and that 'it's a long season — we're two games in.' He added that in Sunday's loss to Seattle, 'there were some opportunities yesterday that I thought that either the defense dictated that it couldn't go there or just self-inflicted wounds — it was kind of 50-50.'
