Eagles release Andy Dalton; McKee, Payton the backups to Hurts 'moving forward'
The Eagles are releasing QB Andy Dalton. QB Tanner McKee and rookie QB Cole Payton will be the backups to Jalen Hurts moving forward. The move doesn't close the door on Dalton's tenure with the team: the Eagles have a lot of injuries and needed his roster spot, and he could still return, even via a practice-squad spot.
Rams expecting a lot of Nacua Sunday; Eagles' DeVonta Smith a 'question mark' for next week
The Rams are expecting a lot of WR Puka Nacua in Sunday's game against the Eagles, and they are hoping DT Aaron Donald, who was ruled out Friday, is back next week. Eagles WR DeVonta Smith, who was ruled out Friday for Sunday's game with a hamstring injury, is a question mark for next week. The Eagles are also flipping their backup quarterbacks, with QB Tanner McKee moving ahead of QB Andy Dalton.
Eagles 'flipping backup QBs', Tanner McKee No. 2 behind Hurts vs. Rams
Eagles QB Tanner McKee will be the No. 2 quarterback behind QB Jalen Hurts for Sunday's game against the Rams, with QB Andy Dalton becoming QB3, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported.
Nick Sirianni noncommittal on backup QB after Dalton's red-zone interception
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni would not say on Wednesday who will back up QB Jalen Hurts this week, two days after QB Andy Dalton threw a red-zone interception while Hurts was being evaluated for a concussion in Monday's 27-7 loss to the Bears. "I have a lot of faith in both of those guys," Sirianni said, via Johnny Gonigal of pennlive.com. "We can't turn the ball over. We did in that situation, and we lost points because of it. But I still have faith in Tanner, in Andy, in how [rookie] Cole [Payton] is developing." Dalton beat out QB Tanner McKee for the No. 2 job this season, but both were inconsistent in training camp, and the Eagles are carrying four quarterbacks because of the lack of a clear QB2.
