Key Wednesday Media Updates

***Adrian Peterson will have surgery to repair his torn meniscus. He will miss at least three months and could be out for the rest of the season.

***Donte Moncrief has a fractured shoulder blade and will miss at least 4-6 weeks.

***Doug Martin will miss multiple weeks with a hamstring strain.

***Arian Foster is a long shot to play in Week 3 with a groin strain.

***Corey Coleman broke his hand in practice on Wednesday.

***Jonathan Stewart likely has a mid-grade hamstring strain. Ron Rivera told reporters Stewart could miss 2-4 weeks.

***Jamaal Charles is still practicing with the scout team and Andy Reid said another week [of rehab] is going to help him.

***Ameer Abdullah had surgery for a foot injury and was placed on injured reserve. There is no timetable for a return yet.

***Jay Cutler was diagnosed with a sprained right thumb and is expected to miss at least two weeks.

Thursday Night Injury Expectations

Here are the skill position players listed on the game status report for Thursday Night Football:

Rob Gronkowski | Hamstring | Questionable | Game-time Decision

There seems to be much more optimism about Gronkowski's availability this week. Multiple beat writers are expecting Gronkowski to play on Thursday night. The Patriots won't reveal Gronkowski's status until the inactive list comes out, listing him questionable. If Gronkowski plays, expect him to play on high leverage -- critical third down and red zone -- snaps only. Those are very favorable routes to run and Gronkowski will likely be a primary read in those situations. We've seen Jimmy Graham and Calvin Johnson thrive in these situations before but it's an extremely high variance situation.

Jimmy Garoppolo | Shoulder | Doubtful | Likely Inactive

Practice Participation: Mon - DNP | Tue - Limited | Wed - Limited

There were some sensational media reports this week about the Patriots pushing Garoppolo to play through his AC sprain. Whether those stories were accurate or not, Garoppolo playing this week was never a realistic possibility. It's tough enough for a quarterback to return within 14 days from a sprain to the throwing shoulder. Returning and playing effectively in less than a week would have been miraculous.

Braxton Miller | Hamstring | Declared Out

Miller will have ten days to prepare for next week's game.

Early Week Practice Participation Report and Early Expectations

The Wednesday and Thursday practice participation reports are our first chance to see which players each NFL team are limiting in practice after the previous week's games. Players limited in mid-week practice aren't necessarily in danger of missing that week's game. But they all need to be watched closely.
