Training camp is an important time for dynasty fantasy football trading. How you use the training camp news is a critical part of the strategy. On one hand, the trades you make during training camp can increase your team’s championship odds. But on the other, scared money doesn’t make money. Below are some ideas learned in the second week of training camp trades.
How IsaIh Pacheco Explains Dynasty Trading
Recent trades involving Isaih Pacheco explain the problems with “selling high”.
Selling High
A common piece of advice in dynasty fantasy football is to “buy low and sell high”. But when you are selling a player, you need to actually sell high.
When selling high, you should be motivated by profit. Too frequently, people will sell a player because they do not want to get caught holding the bag on the player. These trades are motivated not by profit, but by fear. Frequently, they will result in a sell low.
Isaih Pacheco has received consistent buzz in training camp that he has been working with the first team, ahead of Ronald Jones, and received praise from beat reporters and teammates. There is s chance he is the RB2 or better in the Kansas City offense.
Pacheco was a fourth-round rookie pick in rookie drafts and has now experienced an uptick in value. The way you cash out is critical.
The goal of selling Pacheco is to sell for a profit. In other words, you want to make a more meaningful improvement to your team than you think Pacheco can make.
Great examples of selling high on Pacheco include:
- Pacheco and a 2023 2nd for Dalton Schultz (TEP: 2PPR)
- Pacheco for Noah Fant and Byron Pringle
- Pacheco and Chase Claypool for Gardner Minshew and Deebo Samuel
- Pacheco and Darnell Mooney for Van Jefferson, Christian Watson, and a 2023 1st
The move from Pacheco to Schultz is a significant upgrade in the premium format of 2PPR for tight ends. A simple second for the 2023 2nd for Schultz is unlikely to get the trade completed. In a season Schultz could have top-five target volume in 2023. Using Pacheco’s camp buzz as the final piece of the deal is a great move.
Others include Pacheco for Fant and Pringle in straight PPR formats. Using Pacheco to move Claypool up to Samuel is a tremendous upgrade at the wide receiver position.
The trade of Pacheco and Mooney for Jefferson, Watson, and a future first is a major, dynasty-changing type outcome.
Each of these trades moves the needle on your dynasty teams by using Pacheco to acquire a more durable dynasty asset.
