Roundtable Week 10: From A Mile Away...And Still Missed

Matt Waldman's Roundtable Week 10: From A Mile Away...And Still Missed Matt Waldman Published 11/10/2022

Welcome to Week 10 of the 2022 Footballguys Roundtable. Our intrepid panel of fantasy pundits discusses and debates four topics every week. Topics are now split into separate features.

This week's roundtable features these four topics:

From A Mile Away...And Still Missed

Matt Waldman: Pick a development with a player that you believe you saw coming but chose to ignore or overthink.

Jonathan Morris: James Conner was someone many were treading lightly with before the season due to his inflated touchdown total of 18 in 2021. Add this in with his less-than-stellar injury history and some questions about this offense without Deandre Hopkins for the early part of the year and QB Kyler Murray truly taking a jump, and there were some red flags attached to his draft stock.

I chose to ignore that in hopes that he would pick up right where he left off in 2021 and, despite the touchdown regression, still recognize that he could finish as a top-10 back. There is still time for him as he looks to be healthy again, but this Cardinals offense under Kliff Kingsbury has struggled to find their footing, and Conner’s counterpart Eno Benjamin may eat more into Conner’s workload despite being fully healthy. I don’t have much hope in this offense that has found itself playing from behind most weeks to feature Conner on the ground in any way going forward.

Craig Lakins: I was among the doubters of how successful Tyreek Hill could be apart from Patrick Mahomes II and Andy Reid. Obviously, he's a tremendous talent, but I wondered if he'd succeed in what had previously been a pretty vanilla offense in Miami. His time in Kansas City felt like it was a perfect storm of his elite speed, Mahomes's gunslinger arm, and Reid's offensive mind. What I failed to keep in mind is that Hill is 1-of-1. There is no other player like him. His ability to pull away from NFL defensive backs like he's playing against a team from the MAC will never stop being amazing. While his touchdown output (3) has been average thus far, he's averaging 8.4 catches and 122.6 receiving yards per game on the year.
